Why an Experienced Business Owner Chose a Franchise
The Story Behind One Smart Franchise Investment
When people think about franchising, they often assume it is best suited for first-time business owners.
Pat Rossi's story shows why that assumption is not always true.
Before moving to the United States, Pat had already built a successful janitorial services company in Canada. He understood the cleaning industry, knew how to manage operations, and had firsthand experience growing a business from the ground up.
When Pat began exploring opportunities for an E-2 Visa investment, we reviewed several franchise options together. After carefully evaluating different industries and business models, he focused his search on a commercial cleaning franchise.
During one of our conversations, I asked him a straightforward question:
"Why invest in a franchise in an industry where you already know how to build a business from scratch?"
His answer perfectly captured the value of franchising.
Understanding the Real Value of a Franchise
Pat explained that he was not investing in cleaning knowledge. He already had that.
What he was investing in was a proven business model, established systems, comprehensive training, ongoing support, and a faster path to launching and growing a business in a new country.
Having built a company from scratch before, he knew exactly how much time, effort, uncertainty, and trial and error are involved in creating systems, developing processes, and building a customer base.
Rather than starting over from zero, he chose a model that could help him accelerate the process while reducing many of the risks associated with launching a business in an unfamiliar market.
He understood that franchising is not simply about buying a business. It is about leveraging a framework that has already been tested and refined.
Building a Business in a New Country
For many E-2 Visa investors, one of the biggest challenges is entering a market where they have no established network, local relationships, or operating experience.
This was one of the factors that influenced Pat's decision.
The franchise system provided a roadmap, resources, and support structure that helped bridge the gap between his previous business experience in Canada and his new venture in the United States.
His decision demonstrates an important principle:
Experienced entrepreneurs often recognize the value of franchising more clearly than anyone else because they understand what it takes to build everything independently.
A Successful Outcome
A few years after Pat launched his franchise business, I had the opportunity to meet him in person at a franchise conference in Orlando.

Seeing Pat and his family thriving in the United States and continuing to expand their business was one of the highlights of the event for me.
It was rewarding to see the results of a thoughtful decision and a well-executed plan.
Watch Pat Rossi Share His Experience
I later shared how much I enjoyed meeting him in person on LinkedIn, where it caught the attention of Dr. John P. Hayes, the Titus Chair for Franchise Leadership at Palm Beach Atlantic University. He is one of the leading voices in franchising in the USA.
As a result, Pat was invited to discuss his journey and share his perspective on franchising and business ownership in an interview.
